Aysu Aysoy was born in Ankara, Turkey. After graduating with a first class honors degree in Interior Architecture and Environmental Design from Bilkent University, she worked in several prestigious architecture and design practices in Istanbul. Her impeccable technical and computer skills, advanced knowledge of 3D modelling and graphics communication programs, lead her into a career as a 3D Architectural visualization specialist.
Aysu is often described as a dynamic and ambitious interior architect. She has illustrated groundbreaking design techniques by taking an approach where she has utilized intelligent manufacturing technologies and interactive space manipulation. This involves merging human interaction and software to form an autonomous design and construction documentation process.
She is well known for pushing the boundaries within her designs, where her experimental and technical skills intensify the spaces she creates, often through manipulating forms and giving them an organic sensitivity.
Aysu believes that nature contains all the forms and formulas that we need as designers. ‘The structure in nature is a strategy in design’ is something she firmly believes in and interprets into her design process. In her worked examples, Aysu’s experimentation in both structure and aesthetics produces forms that defy gravity and traditional beam and column theories. She states that a load bearing structural system must be beautiful in itself and should never be hidden with cladding.
Part of her ongoing research includes virtual space design and new building technologies that reduce the effort involved in producing complex structural systems.
